Independence & transparency
Editorial Policy
CourseYogi earns revenue through affiliate commissions, yet our rankings are determined solely by the published rubric. This page explains how we keep those two things separate, how courses get selected for review, and how you can hold us accountable.
How courses are selected
We review courses that a practicing yoga teacher would plausibly choose. Inclusion is based on:
- Relevance — the program fits one of our published categories (YTT 200/300/500-hour, specialty, yoga therapy, CEU, or consumer subscription).
- Minimum information threshold — enough public data exists (curriculum outline, pricing, accreditation status) to score all data-derived dimensions. Courses that hide this information are not listed.
- Active enrollment — the program is currently accepting students or has run within the past 24 months.
Courses are not selected because a school paid us, contacted us, or holds an affiliate agreement. Schools may contact us to submit a program for review, but submission does not guarantee listing or a favourable score.
Scoring independence
Every score is computed by the published rubric. Rubric weights cannot be changed per-course. Scores fall into two types:
- Data-derived — calculated automatically from structured fields (price, hours, accreditation, review counts). These recompute whenever the underlying data changes.
- Editorial — scored by a human reviewer (curriculum depth, instructor expertise). The reviewer’s rationale is stored on record and can be surfaced if disputed.
An editor may override a data-derived score, but only with a written justification. Override history is retained. No advertiser, affiliate partner, or school representative has the ability to change a score.
Affiliate disclosure
Some course listings include affiliate links. When you click an enrolment link and subsequently purchase, CourseYogi may receive a commission from the school at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships:
- do not influence whether a course is listed,
- do not change a course’s score or ranking position,
- are not a prerequisite for inclusion — many listed courses have no affiliate arrangement.
Affiliate links are clearly labelled on each course listing so you always know before you click.
Data accuracy & freshness
Structured data (price, hours, accreditation status) is verified at the time of initial review and spot-checked periodically. We rely on public sources: school websites, Yoga Alliance’s public directory, and IAYT’s accreditation register.
Scores are versioned. When the rubric changes — or when we collect materially new data — affected courses are re-scored and the change is noted on the course page. The rubric version in use at the time of any score is stored alongside the score.
Corrections & disputes
If you believe a score, data point, or factual claim is wrong, email our corrections desk. Please include:
- the specific field or score you believe is incorrect,
- the correct value and a primary source (URL or document),
- your relationship to the school, if any.
We aim to investigate and respond within 10 business days. Verified corrections result in an immediate data update and re-score. Schools and their representatives may submit corrections through the same channel; doing so does not guarantee a score change, and the correction is reviewed by an editor who has not dealt with that school commercially.
School partnerships & conflicts of interest
CourseYogi offers a school partnership programme that provides enhanced profiles and analytics. Partnership fees do not affect a school’s scores. Reviewers are not informed of a school’s commercial relationship with CourseYogi before or during scoring. Partnership status is disclosed on the school page.
Staff and contractors who own equity in, are employed by, or have an immediate family member employed by a school are recused from reviewing or scoring that school’s courses.
